The Journal of Commerce reports that U.S. delegates to the United Nations (U.N.) Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), as well as the U.S. government, were disappointed with the slow pace of progress at UNCITRAL's May 2004 meeting on the development of a new international convention for ocean cargo liability. According to the article, while the World Shipping Council and the National Industrial Transportation (NIT) League will continue to support the U.N. process, they had expected to have a finished U.N. convention available for ratification by the end of 2004. In the June 2, 2004 issue of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Bulletin (CBP Bulletin) (Vol. 38, No. 23), CBP issued a notice withdrawing two intellectual property rights (IPR) rulings regarding a company logo, effective June 2, 2004, pursuant to a settlement agreement.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has issued a press release stating that small (pleasure) boaters and their family members and guests entering the U.S. must report for inspection, which may be obtained by: being in possession of a pre-approved form I-68 or NEXUS member proximity card; physically reporting for inspection to the nearest open port-of-entry (POE); or by utilizing an Outlying Area Reporting Station (OARS)/videophone station. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a final rule, effective July 6, 2004, which amends 21 CFR Parts 1, 10, and 16 to provide procedures for the administrative detention of an article of food, if an officer or qualified employee of the FDA has credible evidence or information indicating that such article presents a threat of serious adverse health consequences or death to humans or animals.
