Q2 broadcast results: Nexstar sales increased 17.7 percent from a year earlier to $88.8 million as a sharp increase in political ad sales and 77 percent boost in retransmission consent fees helped results. During the quarter, Nexstar brought in $15.3 million in retransmission fees, up from $8.6 million a year earlier. It swung to an $8.8 million profit from a $2.6 million loss a year earlier … TV ad sales at Fisher Communications increased 17 percent from a year earlier to $35.8 million, excluding nearly $1 million in political ad sales. Retransmission consent revenue increased 89 percent to $6.3 million. Sales at its radio stations fell 2 percent from a year earlier to $5.6 million. Its net income increased 18 percent to $4.3 million … TV ad sales at the E.W. Scripps Company increased 16 percent from a year earlier, on a pro forma basis, to $117 million, the company said. Factoring out the stations it acquired from McGraw-Hill, political ad sales nearly doubled from the same period in the previous national election year, 2010, to $8.2 million. Total retransmission consent revenue more than doubled from a year earlier to $7.8 million as a result of the new stations and new contracts with distributors, it said. TV profit more than doubled from a year earlier to $34.9 million on some accounting changes.

Q2 media results (compared to year-ago quarter): Scripps Networks Interactive sales rose 13 percent to $601 million from the year-ago quarter. Revenue at the cable programmer’s Cooking Channel and DIY Network had “very strong double digit growth both in viewership and in revenues,” Chairman Kenneth Lowe said in an earnings release (http://xrl.us/bni6hf). “We set a company record this year for advance advertising sales and reached an important distribution agreement that will make our content easily and widely accessible to millions of consumers on tablets and other mobile platforms.” Income from continuing operations rose 6.8 percent to $142 million.
