CBP will take an outage to the ACE CERT environment on June 29, 2012 in response to trade software developer requests to deploy fixes to the ACE certification environment prior to deployment to ACE Production, the agency said in CSMS message. The outage will be from noon through 6:30 p.m. EST on June 29. CBP said it would be deploying fixes in advance of their deployment to ACE Production on July 7.
The Senate Finance Committee scheduled a vote for June 29 to consider the nomination of Meredith Broadbent as a member of the U.S. International Trade Commission. Broadbent is nominated for a term on the ITC expiring June 16, 2017.
The House approved HR-4251, the Securing Maritime Activities through Risk-based Targeting (SMART) for Port Security Act , June 28 under suspension of the rules. The legislation is meant to authorize, enhance, and reform port security programs through increased efficiency and risk-based coordination within the Department of Homeland Security. CBP and Simplified Entry (SE) pilot participants started on June 25 a two week period of testing additional volume through the system, said CBP in its ACE Trade Account Owner update for June. The update includes articles on the transition to Rail and Sea Manifest, an update on Simplified Entry, responding to CBP Forms through the ACE Portal, access to the Shared Reports folder, keeping Entry Banks up to date, and clarification on using the In-bond Authorization functionality.
CBP is looking into establishing a pilot program that would waive the requirement to maintain a place of business within the district where customs business is being conducted, allowing for more virtual transactions, said CBP officials June 28. The officials spoke during a CBP Webinar on "Modernizing broker permitting requirements," the third of several Webinars on changes to broker regulation.
CBP's Office of Information and Technology has posted an updated list of companies/persons offering ABI data processing services to the trade community.
The U.S. and Canada released a statement of privacy principles June 28 as part of the joint "Beyond the Border" plan meant to facilitate trade across the border. The principles were developed by the U.S. Justice and Homeland Security Departments and Public Safety Canada and Justice Canada.
CBP will hold a roundtable discussion on the overhaul of customs brokers regulations July 13 in Boston, it said in a public information notice. The discussion will include a presentation from Elena Ryan, acting director of trade facilitation at CBP. The event will take place from 10 AM to 12 PM.
