CBP: Value of Seized Counterfeit Goods in August Neared $1 Billion

In August, CBP seized 1,997 shipments that contained counterfeit goods valued at more than $993 million, the agency said Sept. 16 in a monthly update.

CBP also last month flagged 400 shipments valued at more than $53 million for further examination into whether these shipments were made with forced labor. The agency also said it completed 53 audits in August, identifying $48.7 million in duties and fees stemming from improper customs declarations.

CBP said these actions come as it and the Treasury Department continue to work on interagency reviews of their 21st Century Customs Framework statutory package and CBP's de minimis regulatory package so that the agency may "continue to modernize and enhance our facilities and tools to help our officers quickly and accurately determine which of the nearly 4 million daily de minimis packages need to be examined."
