2002 Fraud Case Ends After CIT, by US Request, Drops Final Charge

The Court of International Trade May 3 dismissed the final charge remaining in a 2002 fraud case brought by the U.S. against an importer, Lee Hunt International, and a few of its sureties, including Frontier Insurance Co. (U.S. v. Lee-Hunt International, Inc., CIT # 02-00816).

In its complaint, the U.S. alleged that Lee Hunt had dodged duties by entering its products under false information, then failing to pay up when caught (see 2404290065). Lee Hunt and all other parties settled in 2006, but the case against Frontier was repeatedly pushed back because the insurance company was undergoing rehabilitation in New York. In 2024, however, rehabilitation failed and Frontier was dissolved.
