US Drops Charges in 2002 Customs Fraud Case After Final Defendant Is Dissolved

The U.S. announced April 26 that it's dropping fraud charges it brought in 2002 against Frontier Insurance Co., the surety for Lee-Hunt International, because Frontier no longer exists (U.S. v. Lee-Hunt International, Inc., CIT # 02-00816).

The case against the other plaintiffs, including Lee-Hunt, was settled in 2006. The charges against Frontier have been maintained since then, but the case has seen continual stays after the insurance company entered rehabilitation in the state of New York in 2003. Frontier was liquidated this year.

The U.S. sought $50,000, plus interest, from Frontier, according to the insurance company’s cross-claim against Lee-Hunt.
