Commerce Accepting Nominees for Revived Export Control Advisory Committee

The Commerce Department is accepting nominations for a relaunched industry advisory committee that will provide input on U.S. export control regulations.

The agency is looking for members to serve on the President's Export Council Subcommittee on Export Administration, which will advise the agency on issues involving the Export Control Reform Act of 2018, the International Emergency Economic Powers Act and other “relevant laws and regulations administered by the Bureau of Industry and Security,” BIS said in a notice this week. Advisory members will make export control recommendations to protect “U.S. national security and foreign policy concerns,” BIS said, “while protecting U.S. technology leadership and commercial trade to ensure a strong U.S. defense industrial base.”

Nominations must be received by BIS by 5 p.m. EST Feb. 8. The agency said it may continue to accept nominations after that date for two years to fill any vacancies.

Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo announced during a November meeting of the President's Export Council that the agency planned to relaunch the committee, whose charter expired in 2019 (see 2311290061). The agency said it’s seeking nominees who are private industry officials, “preferably senior executives” in charge of their company’s production, supply chains, research and development activities or international sales, and they should “have an understanding of the impact of export controls on these functions and the broader marketplace.” Members will generally serve two-year terms, and the committee will meet about three times per year.
