Tariff Overpayment Case Settled in Mediation
A case involving the appraisal and correct tariff payments on six large stamping presses for automobile manufacturing has concluded in mediation, with all issues settled, according to a Feb 28 mediation report (Aida-America v. U.S., CIT # 18-00215).
AIDA-America overpaid nearly $500,000 in tariffs based on a miscalculation by its customs broker, the company and DOJ said in a previous filing seeking the mediation. AIDA-America had sued in 2020. After two years, both parties believed that discovery and settlement efforts had "advanced the possibilities for settlement," they said in their April 2022 joint request.
Neither AIDA-America nor DOJ responded to requests for comment.
