State Department Releases 2021 Digest of US Practice in International Law
The State Department's Office of the Legal Adviser on Aug. 30 released its "Digest of United States Practice in International Law" for 2021. Chapter 3 covers the termination of International Criminal Court-related sanctions, and Chapter 16 focuses on sanctions developments from 2021, export controls and recent litigation and other restrictions. The document gives a record of the view and practice of the U.S. government.
Chapter 11 covers trade, commercial relations, investment and transportation, with Section C discussing the World Trade Organization. The document peers into disputes brought by and against the U.S., including the Boeing-Airbus matter that saw a resolution in 2021. The chapter's Section E peers into intellectual property and Section 301 of the Trade Act, looking specifically at the annual Section 301 congressional and notorious markets reports along with the U.S.'s investigation of digital services taxes.
