Smart TVs, Apple Gear Highlighted in Target Deal Days
Consumer tech figures prominently in a Thursday preview of Target’s Deal Days event, slated for July 11-13, with select headphones and electronics up to 50% off and Apple discounts up to $70. Target again hopped on the hype about Amazon’s 48-hour Prime Day, slated for July 12-13, and will start its three-day event the prior day. Customers who spend $50 on food and beverage get a $10 Target gift card with same-day services. The company gift cards are 5% off when purchased at Target.com, it said. The company also pitched its loyalty program, noting it’s free, unlike Amazon’s $139-per-year Prime membership. New customers to Target Circle, who use the Target RedCard for purchases, get an extra 5% off all purchases during Deal Days, capped at $500. While Prime Day specials begin at Amazon Tuesday, Target’s early deals started Friday, overlapping with Father’s Day promotions. Apple AirPods, 2nd generation, were $99, down from $126. Customers who buy $100 worth of Apple gear get a $10 Target gift card. The iPad Air, shown at a starting price of $599 on Apple.com, was $499 at Target. Target showed the Apple Watch, Series 6, no longer available on Apple.com, for $329-$359. The AirPods Max headphones, regularly $549, were $449. Target executives cited TVs as an area with excess inventory on an earnings call this month (see 2206070030). Sale prices Friday included $159 for a TCL 32-inch HD Roku TV, down from $209; $199 for a 40-inch HD Vizio D-Series smart TV, from $249; $449 for a 65-inch Hisense Android TV online, from $539; and $529 online for a Samsung 65-inch TU7000 4K smart TV, a $120 discount. Vizio’s 50-inch V-Series 4K TV, discounted by $80 to $299, was the No. 1 TV brand in "shelf space" at Walmart and Target in Q1, Vizio Chief Financial Officer Adam Townsend said on a May earnings call 2205130032).
