Sony Sets Summer Release for 3 Models of 4K HDR Laser Projectors

Sony announced three native 4K HDR laser projectors based on a SXRD 0.61-inch panel. The XW series home projectors have a Sony processor using technology adapted from the company’s Bravia TVs, it said Tuesday. Object-based HDR remastering analyzes objects in each frame to match content, it said. The top model in the series is the VPL-XW7000ES ($27,999), rated at 3,200 lumens brightness, with a 70mm Advanced Crisp Focused lens and a live color enhancer that’s said to optimize the picture in bright living spaces. The midrange VPL-XW6000ES ($11,999) delivers 2,500 lumens brightness, and the VPL-XW5000ES ($5,999) has a 2,000-lumen rating, Sony said. The company underscored the size of all three models, which are 20%-30% smaller and lighter than the models they replace, it said. The new projectors, due in summer, have input lag reduction to boost display reaction speed for gamers; they support a 2K 120Hz input with 13-millisecond input lag, the company said. The XW series' Triluminos Pro technology displays 95% of DCI-P3 color gamut, Sony said.
