Amazon Ratchets Up Subscription Offers Ahead of June 21-22 Prime Day Event

After holding its latest Prime Day event in October due to inventory shortages caused by e-commerce demand during COVID-19, Amazon stuffed this year’s 48-hour sales event into Q2 for the first time. The June 21-22 event will run 48 hours starting at 3 a.m. EDT June 21, with a $10 early incentive for Prime members who shop select small businesses June 7-20, it said Wednesday.

Amazon gave a peek Wednesday into bundles it will push on Prime Day, taking profit hits on hardware to try to win over subscribers for its content services. During the event, Prime customers who buy a select Echo smart speaker will get Amazon Music Unlimited in a six-month free trial. Prime members who haven’t tried Amazon Music Unlimited can trial it for four months free.

In a pre-Prime offer, Battlefield 4 is available for free from Price Gaming, a $19.99 value through June 20, along with other gaming offers. Prime members can take Audible Premium Plus for a spin at $6.95 monthly before it goes up to its regular $14.95 rate after four months. They can also get four free months of Wondery+ podcasts.

Prime members who spend $10 or more at select small businesses June 7-20 get a $10 credit for Prime Day. Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Card and Amazon Prime Store Card holders with a Prime membership get 10% back in rewards on select small-business purchases through June 20, and Prime members get a $150 Amazon Gift Card instantly upon approval for the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Card.

For a limited time, new U.S. Prime members who sign up for Prime using an Echo device will receive a $5 Amazon credit, and Prime members can get a $10 promotional credit with the purchase of $40 or more in select Amazon gift cards.

Customers save $15 when they keep $100 worth of items with their first Prime Wardrobe order, Amazon said, and it teamed with Instagram and TikTok for previews of Prime Day deals from clothing, shoes, and accessories brands.

Featured TVs on Amazon’s splash page Wednesday under the banner “Save big, save early” were the Toshiba 32-inch HD Fire TV, knocked down to $129 from $199, an Insignia 43-inch 4K Fire TV at $100 off to $219 and a 24-inch Insignia HD smart Fire TV at 41% off to $99.

The news release highlighted JBL headphones as part of the early Prime Day deals available now, but it wasn’t clear Wednesday which models were part of the early Prime Day promotion. A limited-time deal showed the JBL Tune 225TWS true wireless earphones at $30 off to $69.
