Taiwan Fishing Vessel Is Subject of New CBP Detention Order Due to Forced Labor Concerns
CBP issued a withhold release order for “imported merchandise made wholly or in part with seafood harvested by the Yu Long No. 2, a Taiwanese flagged fishing vessel, at all U.S. ports of entry” CBP said in a news release. The WRO was issued due to suspicions of forced labor use and is effective as of May 11, CBP said. This WRO is the second order issued this month (see 2005010040).
CBP said the WRO is based on information that “indicates the use of forced labor. Under the WRO, CBP will detain such cargo at all ports of entry. Importers of the goods can either re-export the detained shipments or provide information to CBP to demonstrate the goods are not in violation. CBP previously issued a WRO aimed at a fishing vessel, though that WRO was later revoked (see 2004010051).
