Canadian Government Notices as of March 6
The government of Canada issued the following trade-related notices as of March 6 (note that some may also be given separate headlines):
- CITT resumes inquiry into certain fabricated industrial steel components. The Canadian International Trade Tribunal, following a remand order by the Federal Court of Appeal, has resumed its inquiry (No. NQ-2016-004) regarding certain fabricated industrial steel components, to make a redetermination of the denial of exclusion requests made by LNG Canada Development Inc., Suncor Energy Inc. and Fluor Canada Ltd. CITT intends to reach its decision before June 26, 2020.
- Non-commerical provincial tax collection programs. The Canada Border Services Agency on March 4 announced that Memorandum D2-3-6 has been revised to reflect the Harmonized Sales Tax/Provincial Sales Tax rate changes in appendix A. The memorandum provides general information for administering agreements between the CBSA and provincial authorities. The CBSA has agreed to collect provincial taxes for certain provinces on non-commercial goods imported through various means, specifically by travelers.
- Product Recalls: Camino Floor Lamp manufactured in China recalled, for fire hazard; various pajamas and dressing gowns sold by Joules Limited manufactured in China recalled, for flammability hazard posed to children due to not meeting the flammability requirements for children's sleepwear; KULLEN 3-drawer chest by IKEA manufactured in various countries recalled, for tip-over hazard.
