Qualcomm Adds Support for Android Things OS on Snapdragon Processors

Qualcomm will add support for the Android Things operating system on Snapdragon 210 processors with X5 LTE modems, it said in a Tuesday announcement. The SoCs are expected to be the first commercial solutions to offer integrated 4G LTE support for the Android Things OS, a vertical of Android for IoT devices, said Qualcomm. The SoC supports applications requiring security-focused and managed connectivity, such as electronic signage, remote video monitoring, asset tracking, payment and vending machines and manufacturing, plus consumer devices such as smart assistants and home appliances, said Qualcomm. Snapdragon 210 processors running Android Things OS will allow manufacturers to enable the Google Cloud platform and Google services over 4G LTE in their IoT solutions, it said. Qualcomm Technologies plans to extend support of Android Things OS on a variant of its smart home reference platform.
