Oakland Officials Meeting With Frustrated Truckers Who Closed at Least One Facility
Protest activities at the Port of Oakland subsided at the end of the day Aug. 19, but port officials said they resumed Aug. 20. The protests involved dozens of independent truckers who expressed frustration at what they perceive as the growing backlog at the port. They were blocking the entrance to at least one facility, causing at least one terminal to be closed.
Port officials said they were meeting with protesters about their concerns, but didn't respond to requests for additional comment. They said Oakland Police were again in the port area Aug. 20 to actively maintain access to all terminal gates. Port authorities advised limiting dispatching trucks early Tuesday morning until they determined the situation.
