CBP Boston Revises Procedures for Entry Deletions and Cancellation Requests
CBP's Boston field office is revising its procedures of entry deletion and cancellation requests to "advance uniform national procedures throughout" CBP, it said in a Jan. 24 public information notice (PIN). The changes are effective immediately, the PIN said.
CBP Boston provided the following guidelines as part of the new procedures:
- Filers should not wait for notification from CBP on outstanding entry summaries or for CBP to issue liquidated damages before initiating a request for entry cancellation. The filer should make the request as soon as it's clear cancellation is needed.
- Filers should contact the Entry Unit if it's not clear if an entry qualifies for cancellation or deletion. Entry Team 1 is at (617) 565-4615 and Entry Team 2 is at (617) 565-6520.
- Cancellation and deletion requests should be sent to Entry Unit at 10 Causeway Street, Room 603, Boston, MA 02222. Electronic or faxed requests are also permitted and the relevant Entry Team should be contacted for that information.
- Entries that require port code changes between 0401 and 0417 may be corrected via a “pen and ink” change on the CBP Form 7501 and CBP Form 3461 and submitted for correction.
- All requests must include at least: a detailed explanation of the reason for the request (in the form of a letter on company letterhead or using a standardized form); the CBP Form 7501 (original or copy); the replacement CBP form 7501; the CBP Form 3461; the replacement CBP Form 3461; and all supporting documents, including invoices and bills of lading.
- The replacement entry summary must be in “fully paid” and “accepted” status before the Entry Unit can cancel the incorrect entry.
CBP will monitor filers for patterns of excessive or unnecessary requests and provide feedback via the informed compliance process, the PIN said.
