CBP Spells Out Benefits to Trade/Gov't for Cargo Clearance Transformation
CBP posted an updated version of its Trade Transformation document, which outlines some general benefits to the industry and CBP in the transformation of cargo release. It said the benefits are:
Role of the broker
- Trade Benefit: Allows Trade to precertify trusted partners, utilizing them as force multipliers
- CBP Benefit: Expands trusted partnerships, enhancing risk segmentation
ACE/Simplified Entry
- Trade Benefit: Enhances collection of security data and provides release indication earlier, saving time and money
- CBP Benefit: Enhances collection of security data earlier in the process for better admissibility determinations
Centers for Excellence and Expertise (CEE)
- Trade Benefit: Provides one location for post-entry processing, versus many ports of entry
- CBP Benefit: Enhances industry intelligence, resulting in more effective enforcement
The updated document also points to the success of a CEE. Previously, ACME Electronics was importing into 60 Ports of Entry (POE), with 60 ports conducting reviews. The Electronics CEE in Long Beach, Calif. now allows all entries to be reviewed by a single center, said CBP.
