CIT Increases Fees for Admission of Attorney, Certifications, Records Searches, Etc.
The Court of International Trade announced that, effective May 1, 2012, it has approved certain increases in fees for services provided by the CIT. Specifically, CIT increased fees for, among other things, original admission of an attorney to practice (now $76), records retrieval (now $53), filing/indexing in cases where a case filing fee has not been paid (now $46), etc. CIT said the changes flow from an increase in the district court miscellaneous fee schedule promulgated under Title 28 U.S.C. § 1914.
Specifically, CIT raised the fees for the following:
- The original admission of an attorney to practice, including a certificate of admission: $76 (from $50)
- Filing or indexing any paper not in a case or proceeding for which a case filing fee has been paid: $46 (from $39)
- For every search of the records of the court for each case searched, if the information requested is available through electronic access: $30 (from $26)
- For certification of any document or paper, whether the certification is made directly on the document or by separate instrument: $11 (from $9)
- For exemplification of any document or paper: $21 (from $18)
- For reproduction of recordings of proceedings, regardless of the medium, including the cost of materials (if the reproduction is available through electronic access): $30 (from $26)
- For each microfiche sheet of film or microfilm jacket copy of any court record, where available: $6 (from $5)
- For retrieval of a record from a Federal Records Center, National Archives, or other storage location removed from the play of business of the court: $53 (from $45)
- For a check paid into the court which is returned for lack of funds: $53 (from $45)
- For a duplicate certificate of admission or certificate of good standing: $18 (from $15)
(The fee for reproducing any record or paper, including paper copies made from either original document, or microfiche or microfilm reproductions of the original records (when available through electronic access) remains unchanged at $0.50.)
